STEM Statistics

STEM education represents an important hub for societal advancement. Through the lens of statistical analysis, we aim to provide clarity on the current landscape of STEM education. Here are some key STEM statistics to look at:

  1. Research says early learning in science and mathematics matters and supports the development of STEM-related habits of mind.

  2. The percentage of high school graduates meeting the ACT readiness benchmark dropped from 19% to 16% in STEM (combined mathematics and science performance) in 2021-2022.

  3. Women remain underrepresented in engineering (14%), computer (25%) and physical science (39%) occupations.

  4. Minorities also remain underrepresented. Blacks represent 11% of all jobs and 9% of STEM jobs. Hispanics represent 17% of all jobs and only 8% of STEM jobs.

  5. STEM jobs are projected to grow 10.8% between 2022 and 2032, almost 4x faster than non-STEM jobs.
